Our Story

40 years and counting!

The Maine Potters Market opened on Moulton St. in Portland in the spring of 1979, participating in the transformation of the waterfront into the “Old Port,” which has become a mecca for cultural events, artisans, and shoppers.

After a narrow escape from the neighboring Mariners Church fire in 1984, we moved around the corner to our present home in that renovated landmark building at 376 Fore St. in November 1987.

We appreciate our customers who know the value of buying fine pottery, handmade in Maine. As times change, some potters have retired and new ones have joined, but many things at the Maine Potters Market remain the same. We still have a few of our original members, we always have a tremendous variety of the best of Maine’s handmade pottery and we always have a knowledgeable salesperson in the store.
